Villages near Breda

When you think of Breda, you probably think of the city. But Breda is more than that. Breda wouldn't be Breda without the villages of Prinsenbeek, Princenhage, Ulvenhout, Bavel, Teteringen and 't Ginneken. The friendly atmosphere, the cosiness, the Burgundian Brabantian way of life, the picturesque streets and, not to forget, the lush natural areas. They make it apt to call Breda 'a city in the green'. Each village has its own unique atmosphere and special places worth visiting. Beautiful specialty stores, hospitable restaurants and historical and cultural sites you may not even have been aware of. And all of this just a stone's throw away. Whether you're a foodie, a culture buff or an outdoor enthusiast, you'll feel right at home here.

Bavel: cosy and relaxed

Cozy, relaxed, and characteristic. That is Bavel. Located in the green surroundings of Brabant, on the southeast side of Breda. Since 1997, Bavel has been part of the municipality of Breda, but has always maintained its cosy character. The church with the surrounding shops and hospitality venues form the heart of the village. You are quickly in the surrounding green areas for a nice stroll or a brisk walk. Come to Bavel and discover it for yourself...

Typical Ulvenhout

Ulvenhout appears as 'Ulvenholti' in documents from 1274. The oldest traces of habitation in the immediate vicinity of the hamlet have been found in and around the Markdal. Later, the Ulvenhoutsebaan, the Dorpsstraat and the Molenstraat were the connections to Breda, Strijbeek and Hoogstraten.

Ulvenhout has now become a pleasant and characteristic village, surrounded by greenery. Taking a walk in the green Ulvenhoutse forest or the Markdal, shopping at one of the nice fashion stores in the village, and dining luxuriously at Restaurant 't Jagthuijs. Typical Ulvenhout!

Princenhage: Hidden gem 't Aogje

A true hidden gem in Breda: Princenhage, also known as 't Aogje. In the 15th century, the Prince of Orange acquired 'Hage', giving Princenhage its name.

With the picturesque Haagsemarkt, the striking former Town Hall, and the impressive Sint-Martinuskerk, Princenhage exudes atmosphere and cosiness. And let's not forget about the charming restaurants, cafes, and shops. And while you're there, don't forget to walk the fruit picking route!

Cycle and discover all the village centres of Breda.

Get on your bike and discover Bavel, Ulvenhout, Princenhage, Prinsenbeek, 't Ginneken and Teteringen. The long cycling route (62.3 km) connects all these exceptionally beautiful places. Perfect for heading out on a sunny day with your (electric) bike. Stop along the way for a coffee (to go) and take a rest. You can also split up the long route, completing parts of it each time. You can choose the starting point of the route yourself.

Explore d'n Beek

Say Prinsenbeek and you say Boemeldonck. Because Prinsenbeek lives for Carnival. The calendar here runs from Carnival to Carnival. Still 51 weeks to go when the party has just ended. The sense of togetherness in D’n Beek is greater than anywhere else.

But Prinsenbeek is more than just Carnival. It is a very old village that hosts many events and has an unparalleled volunteer structure. Think of lovely shops, cosy restaurants, and you are in nature in no time!

Ginneken: peace, space and bustle

Stylish, Burgundian and cosy. That's 't Ginneken. Peace and space, yet still close to the hustle and bustle of the city. 't Ginneken offers a unique mix of shops, restaurants, nature and dynamism. It's the place to be for style seekers, outdoor enthusiasts, and food lovers.

With the Ginnekenmarkt as its bustling heart and the beautiful Markdal and Mastbos as green gems, 't Ginneken is a Burgundian atmospheric area with surprisingly many faces.

Teteringen: in the middle of the Vrachelse Heide

Right in the middle of the Vrachelse Heide and the Teteringse Heide you will find Teteringen. Until 1997, it was an independent municipality, but since 1997 it has been part of the Municipality of Breda.

You might not expect it, but just a stone's throw away from the village centre you will find vast sand drifts and scots pine forests. And that makes the nature around Teteringen particularly suitable for walking and cycling.
